PORT VILA, MARCH 14th, 2025. Through the Fleet and Housing Management Unit, the Office of the Public Service Commission generated an income of VT12, 429, 377 from government housing rental deductions and government vehicle fines between January and March 14 of 2025.

Prior to the Snap Election, on January 2nd and 3rd, the Fleet and Housing Management Unit (FMHU), in collaboration with the Public Works Department (PWD) and Suppliers of government vehicles, conducted assessments of damages and misuse of government vehicles by former Members of Parliament at that time. These assessments resulted in fines totaling VT 6,608,590 collected by the FHMU. Additionally, VT3,814,000 was collected from overdue rental fees from former MP’s residing in government-owned Houses.

These associated costings were communicated to the Vanuatu Electoral Office as part of its screening process of candidates before the Snap Election.

Additionally, a total of VT2,006,787 in revenue was generated from housing deductions of public servants residing in government houses from January to March 14th, 2025.

In 2024, OPSC contributed a total revenue of VT26 million to the government coffers.

The OPSC through its Fleet & Housing Management Unit, continues to optimize the management of government assets in accordance with the Public Service Staff Manual and the PS Act.
