The Office of the Public Service Commission has conducted the second workshop of Panel of Peers for the commencement of the recruitment of successful applicants for 6 Director Generals position on the 27th of September 2023.

The OPSC Human Resource Management Unit facilitated the competency-based interview workshop for the Panel of Peers as part of the reform process within the Public Service Commission.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the OPSC Mr Martin Mahe reiterated that the PSC is working towards strengthening all its recruitment process to limit external influences.

“It is very crucial that PSC considers all mechanisms in place to help the Commission to choose the right people that will serve in these high-level positions, we want to select the best applicants who will take the lead and manage affairs of each respective ministries they will serve in, manage the workforce under their jurisdiction as well as take up policy directions that will enable better service delivery to the people of Vanuatu,” he said.

Mr Mahe mentioned that Vanuatu has faced challenges especially with the impact of COVID19, natural disasters and issues that are beyond our control, but he believes that the strength of Vanuatu lies within its human resource.

“Hence why the Commission has hope that the work of the Panel of Peers will provide the best leaders chosen for the respective DG positions who will bring on board with them experience, knowledge and wisdom to help PSC to continue to shape its workforce to be ready to face future challenges and at the same time move Vanuatu to a position where citizens are satisfied with the services that we provide to them,” he said.

The Panel of Peers competency-based interview workshop is the preparatory stage where members were informed of the roles of the PSC, Code of Ethics, and the recruitment process of the PSC by the Heads of HRM and Compliance Unit at the OPSC.

The workshop also featured a presentation by the Transparency International Vanuatu purposely to remind the members again on the transparency of recruitment process, principles and values attributed to a leader and emphasized on upholding the rule of law when the Panel of Peers carry out their duty.
