Public Service Career Day Commences Today 25th of July 2019

The Office of the Public Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) is organising the Public Service Career Day today at the National Convention Center.

The Career Day is a time when all Government ministries and departments promote and educate young people about their professions, and encourage young people, particularly students to explore their interests in what they acquire for their future academic journeys and career.

Chairman of PSC, Martin Mahe said this year alone, 118 students who graduated from various universities were able to secure a job within the public service.

He is inviting all students and parents to be part of the important event and to see and hear firsthand information from the experts.

Another upcoming event organised by PSC is the commemoration of the second Public Service Day tomorrow.

This two-day event is specifically to recognize the role of public servants and their contributions towards the development of this country and encouraging young people to pursue careers in the public sector.

It is an opportunity to “discover the value and virtue of the public service to the community, meet with professionals from private and public sectors, learn from their working experiences and educational background”.

Mr. Adil Khan, a professor who possesses more than 35 years of experience in international development, participatory governance and public policy, will be a guest speaker tomorrow.

Highlights of the event include the presentation of awards by the Head of State to 19 senior public servants who have worked within the public service for over 35 years.

Staff from each Government ministries will also receive special awards as a token from PSC in recognition of their outstanding performances.

On May 25, 2018, the Council of Ministers (COM) Decision No. 76 of 2018, endorsed the 23rd of June as the official “Public Service Day”.

This decision is in line with the United Nations Resolution A/RES/57/277.

Furthermore, the COM has agreed for this day to become an Annual Event for all Government Ministries, Departments and Statutory Bodies to actively participate in, and for which a particular budget appropriation is to be made available and allocated for this event.

Members of the general public are welcomed to be part of the two-day event.
