SG reminds Directors to follow procedures

The Secretary General (SG) of the Public Service Commission (PSC), Jacques Gideon has asked all Directors of all Departments in the Public Service to address all their concerns through the Office of the Secretary General to the Chairman of the PSC, Martin Mahe.

In other words, it is not proper to go direct to the Prime Minister, who is the Minister responsible for Public Service.

The SG made the appeal to approximately 30 Directors when they received their letters of appointment under the Public Service new salary scales last week.

He said he accompanied the Chairman of PSC to meet the Prime Minister concerning the latest development on the positions of the Directors. “I wish to register the disappointment of the Office of the PSC concerning how you Directors have dealt with the situation regarding your positions”, he said.

“In our meeting with the Prime Minister yesterday (last Thursday) he was critical to the Chairman of PSC and I as Secretary concerning the manner in which your concerns were channeled and we were rather uncomfortable”.

The SG said the best way forward in the future is to address all concerns and issues through the Office of the Secretary General who will forward them to the Chairman of PSC for submission to the Office of the Prime Minister.

He appealed especially to senior Directors to “set an example” for junior Directors to learn from by following established procedures.
